For most of its history, Essei lived by the Orum, as every Moon did. What was true in nature, what was right in conduct and what was owed between neighbours were all read in their movement.

A liar was followed by three Spheres, floating over the right shoulder. Pyramids tumbled at the feet of a traveller walking toward water. Great joined lattices of turning Cubes lined the roads between settlements, and no one built a road where they did not turn.

No court on Essei in this period kept a record of a trial. None appears to have been needed.
