The Essei travelled next to Ziga. The Zigan were silent and measured, and for a time they behaved as if the Essei were not there. They were not hostile. They were unconcerned.

Teaching them Language was slow, because the Zigan said very little. They communicated in expressions of the face and body so slight that Essei observers could barely see them, and so precise that the Zigan seemed almost to read one another’s thoughts.

Eventually the Zigan learned Language. What followed on Ziga was what had followed on Cri.
